The Rochester 10 recognizes the importance of unstructured play
CITY Newspaper recognized Jenn Beideman, our advocacy manager, as one of the "Rochester 10" for her dedication to promoting the importance of play. It's an annual list of people who make significant contributions to the community. One of Healthi Kids' priorities is to "emphasize that play happens, and should happen, in everyday space." Healthi Kids Coalition awards champions in the community
On December 17, 2019, the Healthi Kids Coalition (https://www.healthikids.org/about-us/our-coalition) held its bi-annual meeting and presented three awesome people with well-deserved awards. Sue Steele, owner of Sue Steele Landscape Architecture, received the Changing the Landscape Award for her work with the Play Walk (https://www.healthikids.org/playwalk/team) . Heather Feinman, an active community member and champion of play, received the Raise Your Voice Award. Jonathan Coyle, Teen Center Director at Cameron Community Ministries, received the Youth Hero Award.
Healthi Kids represented at the NYSB5 Parent Leadership Conference on December 13, 2019. The team presented on Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health for Parent Leaders and Bringing Unstructured Play Back to Your Neighborhood.
Staff members from the Buffalo Area Community Foundation's Youth Sports Initiative came out to learn more about our PlayROCs campaign and how we advocate for play.
A Place at the Table sparks a conversation about our local food system
On December 18, 2019, "A Place at the Table" was screened at The Little Theatre. The event reached capacity and was sponsored by Foodlink, Common Ground Health, the City of Rochester and WXXI. The film examines the issues of hunger and diet-related illness in America and helps to frame potential solutions that can be implemented locally. The night kicked off with a few words from our CEO, Wade Norwood, who encouraged the public to engage in the necessary conversation about Rochester's food system.
Child Care Council is hiring an Executive Director

January 28, 2020 - The Children's Institute invites you to join Understanding and Supporting the Whole Child: A Community Book Study. The study is focused on increasing awareness around issues that impact the social emotional wellness and development of children.
