FLHSA is now Common Ground Health

We're thrilled to share that the Finger Lakes Health Systems Agency is now Common Ground Health! Common Ground Health is a regional health planning organization that brings together diverse stakeholders to transform health and health care in our region. Our name change reflects our mission to bring together people from different sectors to find common ground on our region's most pressing health issues. Healthi Kids is still doing business as usual. For those who may not know, the Healthi Kids Coalition is an initiative of Common Ground Health, and we will continue to advocate for healthier and more active kids in the City of Rochester and Monroe County. To learn more about our work, please visit our new website at www.commongroundhealth.org

March is National Nutrition Month

March is National Nutrition Month! All month, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has been highlighting the importance eating healthy and getting active. This year's theme is "put your best fork forward". It reminds us that each bite counts! You can start with small changes in your eating habits - one forkful at a time. For some tips and recipes, visit Foodlink's website for their nutrition month calendar.

We also know that healthy eating helps kids succeed at school. Healthi Kids continues to partner with the Foodlink and the Eat Smart New York nutrition educators to help kids and families learn about healthy eating. Click here to view Foodlink's Curbside Market spring schedule at Schools 17, 8, 53 and 23! For more information about healthy eating in schools please contact Alicia Evans at 585-224-3172 or alicia.evans@commongroundhealth.org.

It's School Budget Time in Rochester

We know that healthy eating, physical activity and family engagement in our schools all support our kids and families succeeding at school. The Rochester City School District has released their 2017-2018 budget. They are looking for input and feedback from parents, students and the public. Now is the time to share with the district you want a healthier school environment.

Make your voice heard this year at the RCSD's Budget Information Meetings! The next meeting will be held at the RCSD Central Office on West Broad Street starting at 6:00 pm on April 4th. To learn more about how you can get involved with your child's school please contact Erick Stephens at 585-224-3112 or erick.stephens@commongroundhealth.org.

It also calls attention to the role that our built environment and health behaviors play in health disparities, with the goal of achieving health equity. Click here to learn more about Health Equity Day and how you can play a role.

The Rochester Regional Library Council will be hosting its 3rd annual Silo-Busting Event on April 25th. The event will be held at the Rochester Brainery from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.
