Join us at the 7th Annual Cameron Community Ministries Peace Walk

Every child has the right to a safe place to play in their neighborhood. Data from the Healthi Kids Coalition demonstrates that one of the top barriers to play is neighborhood safety. As kids at Cameron Community Ministries we are all too familiar with the continuing violence in our neighborhoods, and we are standing up for change in our community.

On Thursday, May 30th the Cameron Community Ministries After School Program will host our 7th Annual Peace Walk in the Lyell-Otis Neighborhood. Organized and planned by the kids in our program, Cameron Community Ministries is proud to also partner with the Healthi Kids Coalition, an initiative of Common Ground Health. Together, we walk in solidarity for peace and the right to play in a safe neighborhood.

Please join us in our effort to change our neighborhood and community, and help our powerful voice be heard. With the help of the Rochester Police Department, the walk will lead participants on a route that will show “a day in the life of a Cameron kid”. We will begin our walk at Cameron Community Ministries at 4:30 p.m. down to our school (Flower City School #54), to The Lyell Branch Library, and back.  On our way back to Cameron, we will stop in front of Cameron’s brand new Teen Center, and hear from one of our teen committee members about their excitement for the Center to open. Upon our return to Cameron there will be a short reception and light refreshments served as our friends and fellow classmates (ages 5-12) will share their thoughts on how violence in our neighborhoods has affected them, and why it’s important to stand up for peace.
