City of Rochester Brings Play to Neighborhood Sidewalks
Healthi Kids is thrilled to share that Rochester has joined cities across the nation in creating a playful sidewalk program. On November 15, 2016, Commissioner Norman Jones from the City of Rochester Department of Environmental Services signed into action a city-wide Playful Sidewalk policy. An extension of the city's current Boulevart program, the policy allows neighborhood associations, block clubs and community organizations to transform residential sidewalks into opportunities for play. Imagine hopscotch on your kids walk between their school and R-Center, or a playful maze in front of your local corner store or library!
The playful sidewalk policy emerged from Healthi Kids' ongoing advocacy through our Play ROCs campaign. Play ROCs is advocating the creation of a more playable City of Rochester - bringing opportunities to introduce play into every day moments.
Join Healthi Kids in thanking Commissioner Jones and his staff for continuing to build a more playable Rochester by sending him a thank you letter. Visit our website, fill out your information, and click to send your own thank you here.
Over the next few months, we will be working with neighborhood associations, block clubs and community organizations to spread the word about the policy. Stay tuned for more details about a coordinated painting day!
