Take Action

There are many ways that you can take action on behalf of Rochester's children.  Here are some suggestions:

  • Encourage healthy classrooms and school environments - support a set of standards for foods and beverages at parties, celebrations, and events
  • Attend a School Board or City Council meeting
  • Work with school food service directors to improve menus and food preparation techniques. Involve youth to include local, cultural, and ethnic favorites of the students
  • Encourage active commuting to school
  • Lead a "Walking School Bus" and invite families who live nearby to walk with you
  • Switch to fundraisers that sell fruit, wrapping paper, candles, t-shirts, car washes, and other non-junk food items
  • Offer to organize a physical activity within your faith community - walk after worship, fellowship fitness, community garden
  • Volunteer to supervise playground play and recess activities
  • Staff a Healthi Kids table for a school open house, community health fair, or other public event
  • Organize special events such as rallies, group testimonials, and letter-writing campaigns
  • Petition your town or city for bike lanes and improved sidewalks/walking routes
  • Join the community dialogue on the Healthi Kids Facebook and Twitter pages
